On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Lesya Ukrainka, the Ukrainian Embassy in the Republic of Tajikistan honored the memory of the great poet in the solemn hall of the National Library of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The festive event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, in particular, the Ambassadors of most of the countries accredited in Tajikistan, diplomatic staff of other embassies and international organizations, representatives of the Foreign Ministry of the host country, representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora in Tajikistan, Members of the Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan - members of the Friendship Group with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, as well as journalists.
The event began with a solemn speech by the Director of the National Library of Tajikistan, who noted the friendly nature of Ukrainian-Tajik relations and the prospects for cooperation, in particular, in the book and library industry.
In his speech, Ambassador of Ukraine Vasyl M. Servatiuk outlined the latest achievements of the Ukrainian-Tajik relations and spoke about plans for the development of cooperation with the Republic of Tajikistan in the near future. For the significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian-Tajik relations and assistance to the Embassy of Ukraine in holding cultural and artistic events, Ambassador Vasyl M. Servatiuk awarded the National Library of the Republic of Tajikistan with a diploma.
After that, the guests watched a video about the work of Lesia Ukrainka, and the First Secretary of the Embassy, Ihor P. Cherinko, made a speech about the life of the outstanding poetess.
The floor was also taken by the German Ambassador Anrreas Prothmann, who spoke about the creative impact left by L. Ukrainka's travels to Germany and expressed great respect for her literary heritage.
After that, a group of schoolchildren-students of Dushanbe lyceums, who come from families of citizens of different states, spoke to the guests. The students were dressed in outfits modeled by a talented young Ukrainian lady, A. Servatiuk, and read excerpts from various works by L. Ukrainka.
After them, the guests were addressed by representatives of the National Library, Tajik youth and students, who are not indifferent to the work of L. Ukrainka, whose poems they read in Tajik and Ukrainian.
An exhibition of Lesya Ukrainka's books was organized in the hall, which were sent to the Republic of Tajikistan and donated to the National Library of the Republic of Tajikistan by the efforts of the Embassy.
At the end, the guests moved on to socializing at a friendly table and taking photos with a festive banner specially prepared on the occasion of Lesya Ukrainka's 150th birthday.
