During a working trip to the Sughd region of the Republic of Tajikistan, Ukrainian Ambassador Vasyl Servatyuk visited the Khujand state University named after Academician Bobodjon Gafurov.
Currently, the University is one of the leading higher education institutions in Tajikistan.
It is interesting that Ukrainians played a big role in the creation and operation of the University. One of the first rectors was Ukrainian Leo E. Mesenjikov of (1938-1942 years).
An extremely large number of teachers were also from Ukraine.
During the Second world war, Zaporizhya and Melitopol pedagogical institutes were evacuated to Khujand. 40 young Ukrainians studied at the Institute.
A Ukrainian Professor, Komarov Bogdan Mykhailovych, almost all his life worked at the Khujand University (at that time - the Institute), collected a herbarium of 32,000 samples of the flora of Tajikistan and Sughd region. The collection of the famous scientist is currently one of the largest in Tajikistan.
The Ambassador of Ukraine visited the Museum of the institution, got acquainted with the work of the Institute. More than 20,000 students study at this University. The Ambassador of Ukraine made a report to the book of honorary visitors and held a working meeting with the rector's office and the teaching staff.
