On July 4, 2016 the national flag of the Crimean Tatar people was solemnly hoisted next to the State Flag of Ukraine at the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Tajikistan.
On 18th of May 2016 President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko noted that 72 years ago the Crimean Tatars were alone in their trouble with a ruthless Kremlin regime, which subjected them to the very severe challenges. "Today, together with you, millions of our friends are along with all of us. Ukrainians, the world must not allow the tragedy of the Crimean Tatar people to repeat again. This is a common position not only of Ukraine, but also of the leading countries of Europe and America, the authoritative international organizations, all of our partners around the world ", - stressed the head of the Ukrainian state.
Poroshenko noted that the issue of protection of the rights of the Crimean Tatars and other peoples living in the Crimea is under the constant attention of the Ukrainian authorities. In connection with the deterioration of the situation with the rights and freedoms of citizens, the matter of continuing the sanctions against Russia and its puppets in the Crimea as well as tightening those actions was raised before the partners of Ukraine.
"Our task is to protect the Crimean Tatar people in their homeland Crimea, and the long-term strategy is to free Ukrainian peninsula from Russian occupation step by step", - said Poroshenko.
The President believes that the Ukrainian authorities should begin in the Parliament of Ukraine the process of introducing amendments in section X of the Constitution of Ukraine "Autonomous Republic of Crimea", which would fully proceed from the inherent right of self-determination of the Crimean Tatar people as a part of a sovereign and independent Ukrainian state.
"We, though belatedly, realized the need to build the national autonomy of the Crimean Tatars in the Crimea, of course, ensuring full equal rights and civil liberties of ethnic Ukrainian, Russian and other ethnic groups of peninsula", - emphasized Poroshenko, and informed, that he plans to appeal to the Constitutional Commission of Ukraine calling for the creation of the working group composed of the members of the Commission, representatives of the Majlis and experts to prepare amendments to this section in the nearest future.
"Crimea was, is and will remain an integral part of Ukraine, and the thief country will be compelled to return the stolen. That's going to happen sooner or later, whatever long the process of the de-occupation of the peninsula could be. Such crime as annexation has no statute of limitations in the international law", - the President said and expressed confidence that the Crimea and the occupied areas of Donbas will be returned under the sovereignty of the Ukraine.
"The war for Ukraine will be completed only when the last piece of our land in the Crimea and Donbas will be released, when the foot of the last occupier leaves the holy Ukrainian land. And before that we have to be strong and steadfast in our faith. Crimea is not Russia. Crimea is Ukraine. And Ukraine is Europe",- summed up Poroshenko.
