On April 26, 2015 in the city of Norak Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Tajikistan Viktor Nikitiuk took part in the ceremony of laying the flowers to the monument to liquidators of the accident at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.
Ambassador had a meeting with the representatives of NGOs uniting the liquidators of the implications of the Chornobyl disaster. In 1986 about 6000 Tajik citizens were sent to participate in elimination of the Chornobyl accident consequences.
Today Norak is the only city in Tajikistan where the monument to the liquidators of the implications of Chornobyl disaster had been opened. On the occasion of 29th anniversary of Chornobyl tragedy the city library presented the collection of printed and photo materials on this topic.
Viktor Nikitiuk also had a meeting with the mayor of Norak Fathullo Khurmatov and visited Norak hydroelectric power station, where he met with its director, member of Tajik parliament Fazliddin Shoiddinov. Norak power station generates 70% of electricity for Tajikistan, while 80% of its equipment is produced in Ukraine.
